AMMA Master Health Check-up Center Soon
Check up would include blood test, urine test, sugar, thyroid and cholesterol screening, liver screening, chest x-ray, echo, USG scan
CHENNAI: The AMMA Master Health Check -up Centre at Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital is expected to be inaugurated soon as the works have neared the end.
Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa had announced the launch of AMMA Master Health Check-Up scheme in the Assembly a few months ago.
As a pilot project, the AMMA Master Health Check-up will be launched at the RGGGH in Chennai.
The scheme which was announced on the preventive healthcare front is to benefit those who cannot afford such services in private hospitals. The check up would include blood tests, urine tests, sugar, thyroid and cholesterol screening, liver screening, chest x-ray, echo and USG (abdominal ultrasonography) scan .
For women, the AMMA Woman Health Check -up, including Pap smear and digital mamogram would also be offered at the hospital besides the above mentioned tests.
According to a source, the total cost of the set up including equipment was around `10 crore. Now in master health check up, only urine, blood and sugar test and X-ray will be done. But under AMMA Master Health Check-up, Echo, ECG, digital x-ray, mamogram, Dexa scan (for screening bone density) first-of-its kind tests in the government hospitals will be done, said the hospital source.
“Four doctors, a nurse and over 10 paramedical staffs will be recruited on contract basis for the facility. It will function from 8 am to 1pm”.
According to PWD officials, almost all the works have been completed, and only fine tuning work is going on. It will all get over in a couple of days. The work are going in full swing because of the inauguration.
“We have been instructed to make ambience just like any private health centre. So care is being taken to give magnificient outlook at the entrance to the facility” said a PWD official.
The expensive tests will be done at the nominal cost at the centre, first time in the government sector, said a senior doctor in the hospital. Gardening work also on progress.
